The New Look of Washington, DC’s Donovan House by Kimpton

It was April 2012 that Kimpton stepped-in to provide this hotel with the guidance necessary to bring this property into the current decade, and mold the hotel to be more competitive in the very cutthroat hospitality industry of DC. Having just revealed an impressive multimillion-dollar renovation to the 193 guestrooms, suites and hallways, Donovan House now has a much more inviting Kimpton “feel” to the property.

With an ideal location on 14th Street NW overlooking Thomas Circle, Donovan House is primed to win the hearts of the modern-day travelers looking for style and convenience. Never forgetting the rich history this hotel possesses, the design aptly reflects the original modern style with nods to its namesake, “Wild” Bill Donovan, who was the founder of the OSS, and what is now the CIA. Because of Donovan’s love for traveling internationally, the hotel’s design is inspired by the sleek Asian and European influences, along with a touch of Washington, DC.

Catering to the business traveler, each of the new rooms has five-foot dark oak finished desks, which feature built-in, flip-up outlets with standard power and USB sockets. CBT, a Boston-based design firm, successfully executed a décor that is rather minimalistic with clean lines and stylishly modern touches.

When guests are not taking advantage of the chic rooftop pool and bar, the new guestrooms and suites are certainly not short of style. Canopy beds steal the show once you walk into these new rooms, complete with a pleasing palette of contemporary grey and deep purple with rust accents. Not completely losing the touches that made headlines back in the day, the new property still has the cocoon spiral showers.

For those looking for a “suite deal” in DC, the hotel now has 10 King Suites with all the bells and whistles. In total Kimpton style, the suites are complete with a pull out grey chenille sofa bed and a contemporary executive table with chairs that can comfortably seat up to six people for a meeting. The principle suite is guaranteed to provide hours of fantastic scenery with panoramic views onto Thomas Circle, and out over the District.

For travelers this summer, Donovan House is offering a unique package for guests staying overnight Thursdays that provides a delicious reason to choose Kimpton for your DC stay. The Omakase Dinner Package includes an exclusive dinner for two at Zentan’s sushi counter, where Chef Jennifer Nguyen curates a completely unique dining experience each week based on the freshest selection of rare fish, quality meats and of-the-minute produce.

Enjoy the new Donovan House being presented to guests this summer with that generous hospitality that is quintessential Kimpton.
