For Good Life Report | We’ve seen the world of golf continue to evolve and amaze us over the years; from the fashion-forward clothing options, amazing new equipment and of course, the gadgets that we all love. Since the first Apps appeared, it always seemed to be a fantastic concept with only minimal results due to poor load times, incorrect information and simply draining your phone’s battery life. During these unsure times of golf Apps to help us both on the course and off with handicap software and more, GolfLogix has clearly been the cutting-edge brand for over five years. It seems that the future of golf Apps is here now with the most recent release from GolfLogix. Here’s my first impression…
Beyond giving yardages and keeping your score, this App includes the GPS distances for over 30,000 courses and provides access to GolfLogix’s “online clubhouse,” providing social networking forums with other members, handicap tracking and much more. My favorite aspect is the 4-player scoring and the fact that it’s able to track fairways hit, greens in regulation, putts and more stats while on the course.
There is some controversy hanging over their most recent release, as they now have an extra level of services and options that costs $20, per year. In my opinion, becoming a Champion Member is an inexpensive investment if you’re going to be playing a fair amount of golf, and want the added perks of more GPS options, video flyovers of holes, access to target points while playing and a more detailed yardage book. Looking to take advantage of the cardio workout while playing a round? You’re in luck, with this feature; it also has a calorie counter included. All this being said, for a majority of golfers out there, this Champion Membership is not all that necessary, so staying with the free App is more than suitable for most.
GolfLogix has now also partnered with GolfNow.com to provide “members” of the GolfLogix club all the advantages associated with GolfNow. It’s now easy to book tee times at over 4,000 courses, and search this extensive database to find the best tee time to fit your schedule and budget. These two companies have both been dedicated to developing advances in the world of golf, and sure to be a longtime partnership. There’s now no excuse to not get the tee time you desire and work on improving the game for the season.
I am one that has always been critical of these Apps as they always consumed too much time on the course fumbling around the options to find what I needed, and drained my phone’s battery by the back nine. I will admit that I am a bit old school, in that I enjoy using yardage books when available and the time spent at the end of the round to do the math and determine the final scores. However, this updated App is changing my outlook on the future of these Apps, and loving the options while on the course, as well as being able to maintain scores, stats and handicaps in one centralized location. It’s no surprise to me that GolfLogix continues to be the most downloaded App for so many years, and now only look forward to seeing what surprises they have for us in the future.
