For The Examiner | Already being faced with back-to-school shopping and the harsh reality that summer is quickly winding down; it’s not too late to make time for a final family getaway. Though I am also a fan of the simplicity of choosing a Disney resort, there are several California family packages worth considering when looking for ways to savor a few more precious days of summer fun. Join me as we explore these California options at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, Hotel Del Coronado near San Diego and Galleria Park Hotel San Francisco.
The Peninsula Hotel | The Family Moments Package provides for a unique luxury hotel experience in the heart of Beverly Hills, complete with an amazing spa, luxurious pool and cabanas and award-winning dining options. Here, the kids will feel like royalty as the hotel goes above and beyond to not only cater to their every need, but also provide some unique perks along the way. While The Peninsula is a luxury hotel from start to finish and carries the price tag to prove it, the property has some added perks for the parents too. A 50% discount is offered towards the second room for the kids, complimentary breakfast for the adults and to help the final bill, kids eat free from the children’s menu during their entire stay. Beyond the VIP treatment for the kids, they also receive gifts, amenities and even have kid-sized robes and slippers waiting for them in the room. Don’t forget to also inquire about the treasure hunt that the hotel hosts for the kids, which is always a huge hit.

Hotel Del Coronado | With a history dating back to 1886, this property not only has an impressive past, but continues to evolve with the times, maintaining the up-to-date image for their visitors of all ages. A resort of this magnitude has an endless amount of activities for the entire family, including golf, surf lessons, bike rentals, beach activities, pools, beachside s’mores and even “dive-in” movie nights continuing through the end of August. Kidtopia Camp & Crafts and the Vibz Teen Lounge provide great escapes for the kids and teens to have a little time with their friends. An added perk for families traveling with teens is an opportunity to spa together by taking advantage of the Teen Spa and Salon. The Del is an exciting property with so many activities, but still possesses that charming warmth, which is nicely presented in a luxurious package complete the all of the desired amenities. When it comes to traveling with the family, I love the attention given to every last detail, especially at check-in. Kids are presented with a VIK pass, which is worn around their neck and gives them special treatment while on the property, and the teens are given the Teen Access Pass, which is a credit-card size pass giving them exclusive access to the teen activities.

Galleria Park Hotel | For a true city environment, the Kids ‘R VIP package is a perfect solution at the renovated and rejuvenated Galleria Park Hotel by Joie de Vivre. As with all JDV properties, you expect a hip and sophisticated vibe with touches of whimsy and luxury… Galleria Park will not disappoint in these areas. With so many city activities within a few blocks, the entire family will never be bored while exploring Union Square, Chinatown and other nearby sights, shops and dining options. From the moment kids arrive, they are provided the “red carpet” treatment. Escorted through the lobby, the kids are then able to climb up the pint-sized ladder at the front desk, so that they can properly check-in their family and receive the welcome amenity, which includes a travel backpack, iTunes gift card and a certificate for breakfast at a favorite local restaurant. As a perk for the parents (in addition to the complimentary wine hour daily), rates are approximately half the normal rate, but with the VIP treatment by the Galleria Park staff, your kids will never know all of the money you saved.
